What is Estramon Uno?

Estramon Uno is an estrogen-only hormone replacement therapy (HRT) patch used to treat symptoms of menopause. It contains estradiol, a form of estrogen that is chemically identical to the estrogen your body naturally produces before menopause.

As you go through menopause, your ovaries gradually stop producing estrogen. This hormonal decline can cause a range of symptoms that affect your comfort, sleep, mood and quality of life. Estramon Uno helps by replacing the estrogen your body no longer produces in sufficient amounts.

Estramon Uno is a transdermal HRT patch, meaning it delivers estrogen through your skin directly into your bloodstream. Because it bypasses your digestive system, it provides stable hormone levels and may reduce certain risks compared to oral estrogen tablets.

Estramon Uno is usually prescribed if:

• You are postmenopausal (no period for at least 12 months)
• You have had a hysterectomy (your womb has been removed)

Because it contains estrogen only and no progesterone, it is generally suitable for women who no longer have a womb.

What is Estramon Uno used for?

Estramon Uno is used to treat menopause symptoms caused by low estrogen levels.

Common symptoms of menopause include:

• Hot flushes
• Night sweats
• Sleep disturbances
• Mood changes
• Vaginal dryness
• Reduced libido
• Fatigue

Hot flushes and night sweats are called vasomotor symptoms. This means your internal temperature control system is affected by hormonal changes. Estrogen helps regulate this system.

Estramon Uno may also be used to help prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a condition where bones become thinner and more fragile due to the loss of estrogen. This increases the risk of fractures, especially in the hips, spine and wrists.

By restoring estrogen levels, Estramon Uno helps relieve menopause symptoms and supports bone strength.

How does Estramon Uno work?

Estramon Uno works by replacing estrogen, the primary female hormone that decreases during menopause.

Estradiol (Estrogen)

Estradiol:

• Stabilises your body’s temperature regulation
• Reduces hot flushes and night sweats
• Improves vaginal moisture and elasticity
• Supports mood and sleep
• Helps maintain bone density

After menopause, low estrogen levels can affect many systems in your body. By delivering estradiol steadily through the skin, Estramon Uno restores more stable hormone levels.

Because it is delivered through a transdermal patch, the hormone enters your bloodstream gradually. This steady absorption avoids large hormonal peaks and may reduce the risk of blood clots compared to oral estrogen therapy.

Unlike combined HRT, Estramon Uno does not contain progesterone. Progesterone is normally needed to protect the lining of the womb. If you still have your womb, estrogen-only therapy can increase the risk of endometrial cancer. That is why Estramon Uno is typically prescribed after hysterectomy.

Who should not use Estramon Uno?

You should not use Estramon Uno if:

• You have or have had breast cancer
• You have estrogen-sensitive cancer
• You have unexplained vaginal bleeding
• You have untreated endometrial hyperplasia
• You have or have had blood clots
• You have a blood clotting disorder
• You recently had a heart attack or stroke
• You have severe liver disease
• You are allergic to estradiol

If you still have your womb, Estramon Uno is generally not recommended unless progesterone is also prescribed.

Always discuss your full medical history with your doctor before starting hormone replacement therapy.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Estramon Uno is intended for postmenopausal women only.

You must not use this medication if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.

Estramon Uno should not be used while breastfeeding.

If pregnancy occurs while using this patch, remove it immediately and contact your doctor.

How to use Estramon Uno and dosage

Always use Estramon Uno exactly as prescribed.

The patch is typically applied once weekly, depending on the strength prescribed.

How to apply the patch:

• Apply to clean, dry, healthy skin
• Suitable areas include the lower abdomen or buttocks
• Do not apply to your breasts
• Press firmly for at least 10 seconds
• Change the patch on the same day each week

Rotate application sites to reduce skin irritation.

It may take several weeks before you notice full symptom relief. Your doctor will prescribe the lowest effective dose to control your symptoms and review your treatment regularly.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Estramon Uno may cause side effects.

Common side effects include:

• Breast tenderness
• Headache
• Nausea
• Mild fluid retention
• Skin irritation at the application site

Less common but more serious risks associated with estrogen therapy include:

• Blood clots
• Stroke

The risk depends on your age, health status, family history and duration of treatment. For healthy women under 60 or within 10 years of menopause, the absolute risk is generally low when monitored appropriately.
