Talvosilen is a combination medication from the group of pain relievers (analgesics). It contains paracetamol and codeine, and is used for short-term relief of moderate pain that cannot be controlled with standard painkillers alone.
Paracetamol helps lower fever and ease pain by acting on the brain’s pain centers. Codeine is a weak opioid that strengthens the pain-relieving effect by working on the nervous system. Once taken, part of the codeine turns into morphine, which is responsible for its stronger action.
Talvosilen is used when pain is moderate and persistent, such as in back pain, muscle or joint discomfort, menstrual cramps, dental pain, post-surgery pain, or headaches. It may also be useful in other painful conditions when simpler treatments don’t provide enough relief.
In the body, this combination gives faster and stronger pain relief than paracetamol alone. Paracetamol usually works within an hour, and codeine helps maintain the effect for longer. However, Talvosilen does not reduce inflammation.
The main benefit of Talvosilen is that it helps manage pain that interrupts daily life, especially when other painkillers are not enough. Because it contains codeine, it should only be used for a short time to avoid unwanted effects such as drowsiness, constipation, or risk of dependence.
General Information
Talvosilen is a pain relief medicine that combines paracetamol and codeine. It is used to treat moderate pain when milder painkillers are not enough.
It relieves moderate pain such as back pain, muscle or joint pain, menstrual cramps, dental pain, and post-surgical discomfort.
Paracetamol reduces pain and fever by acting in the brain. Codeine works in the nervous system to block pain signals and enhance the pain-relieving effect.
1–2 tablets every 6 hours as needed, up to a maximum of 8 tablets in 24 hours. Treatment should not last more than 3 days.
Pain relief usually starts within 30 to 60 minutes.
Take it when remembered if needed, but skip it if it’s close to the next dose. Do not take a double dose.
