What is Femoston Conti?
Femoston Conti is a continuous combined hormone replacement therapy (HRT) tablet used to treat symptoms of menopause. It contains two hormones: estradiol, a form of estrogen, and dydrogesterone, a type of progesterone (also called a progestogen).
After menopause, your ovaries stop producing significant amounts of estrogen. This hormonal change can cause symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, sleep problems and vaginal dryness. Femoston Conti replaces these hormones in a steady daily dose.
Because Femoston Conti contains both estrogen and progesterone in every tablet, it is called continuous combined HRT. “Continuous” means you take it every day without a break. Unlike sequential HRT, Femoston Conti is designed so that you normally do not have a monthly bleed.
Femoston Conti is usually prescribed if:
- You are postmenopausal (no period for at least 12 months)
- You still have your womb
It comes as an oral tablet that you take once daily.
What is Femoston Conti used for?
Femoston Conti is used to relieve menopause symptoms caused by low estrogen levels.
During menopause, the drop in estrogen can cause:
- Hot flushes
- Night sweats
- Sleep disturbances
- Mood changes
- Vaginal dryness
- Reduced libido
- Fatigue
- Joint discomfort
Hot flushes and night sweats are known as vasomotor symptoms. This means your body’s internal temperature regulation is disrupted by hormonal changes.
Femoston Conti may also help prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis, a condition where bones become thinner and more fragile due to estrogen loss. This can reduce fracture risk in women who are at increased risk and who cannot use other bone treatments.
Femoston Conti is particularly suitable if you are fully postmenopausal and prefer not to have monthly bleeding.
How does Femoston Conti work?
Femoston Conti works by replacing the two key hormones that decline after menopause.
Estradiol (Estrogen)
Estradiol is chemically similar to the estrogen your body naturally produced before menopause. It helps to:
- Reduce hot flushes and night sweats
- Improve vaginal dryness
- Support mood and sleep
- Maintain bone density
- Support overall hormonal balance
Dydrogesterone (Progestogen)
If you still have your womb, taking estrogen alone can cause the lining of your womb (called the endometrium) to thicken too much. Over time, this increases the risk of endometrial cancer.
Dydrogesterone protects the lining of your womb by preventing excessive thickening. Because it is included in every tablet, the treatment is continuous and usually prevents monthly bleeding.
By combining both hormones in one daily tablet, Femoston Conti provides balanced hormone replacement therapy for postmenopausal women.
Who should not use Femoston Conti?
You should not use Femoston Conti if:
- You have or have had breast cancer
- You have estrogen-dependent cancer
- You have unexplained vaginal bleeding
- You have untreated endometrial hyperplasia
- You have or have had blood clots
- You have a known clotting disorder
- You recently had a heart attack or stroke
- You have severe liver disease
- You are allergic to estradiol or dydrogesterone
Always inform your doctor about your medical history before starting hormone replacement therapy.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Femoston Conti is only intended for postmenopausal women.
You must not take Femoston Conti if you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant.
Femoston Conti should not be used while breastfeeding.
If pregnancy occurs during treatment, stop taking the tablets and contact a doctor immediately.
How to use Femoston Conti and dosage
Always take Femoston Conti exactly as prescribed.
- Take one tablet daily
- Take it at the same time each day
- Swallow the tablet with water
- Do not skip doses
Because it is continuous combined HRT, you take the tablets every day without a break between packs.
If you forget a dose and it has been less than 12 hours, take it as soon as you remember. If more than 12 hours have passed, skip the missed dose and continue as normal.
Your doctor will prescribe the lowest effective dose to control your symptoms and will review your treatment regularly.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Femoston Conti may cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them.
Common side effects include:
- Breast tenderness
- Headache
- Nausea
- Abdominal pain
- Mood changes
- Mild fluid retention
- Irregular spotting, especially in the first months
More serious but less common risks associated with hormone replacement therapy include:
- Blood clots
- Stroke
- Breast cancer
- Ovarian cancer
- Heart disease
Your individual risk depends on your age, time since menopause, personal medical history and family history.
For healthy women under 60 or within 10 years of menopause, the overall risk is generally considered low when monitored appropriately.
Important safety information
Before starting Femoston Conti, you should have a full medical consultation.
Tell your doctor if you have ever had:
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Migraine
- Gallstones
- Liver disease
- Fibroids
- Endometriosis
- High triglycerides
- A family history of breast cancer
While using Femoston Conti:
- Attend regular check-ups
- Continue routine breast screening
- Perform regular breast self-examinations
- Report unusual vaginal bleeding
Hormone replacement therapy should be reviewed at least once a year.
When to seek medical help
Stop taking Femoston Conti and seek urgent medical attention if you experience:
- Painful swelling in one leg
- Sudden chest pain
- Difficulty breathing
- Severe sudden headache
- Vision or speech problems
- Weakness on one side of your body
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes

If you are unsure whether your symptoms are related to hormone replacement therapy, you can book a secure video consultation with one of our licensed doctors via Transtoyou for personalised medical advice. If your symptoms are severe or sudden, seek urgent medical care immediately.
General Information
Femoston Conti is a continuous combined hormone replacement therapy tablet. It contains estradiol (an oestrogen) and dydrogesterone (a progestogen) in every daily tablet. Because both hormones are taken continuously, regular monthly bleeding is not expected.
Femoston Conti is designed to avoid regular monthly bleeding. Some irregular spotting may occur during the first few months of treatment, but persistent or heavy bleeding should be assessed by a doctor.
Femoston Conti is not a contraceptive. It should only be used in postmenopausal women. Additional contraception may be required if menopause has not been confirmed.
Femoston Conti is a continuous combined HRT taken daily without breaks and usually does not cause monthly bleeding. Sequential HRT provides oestrogen first and then adds a progestogen later in the cycle, which often results in a monthly withdrawal bleed.
Safety & Side Effects
Femoston Conti, like other combined HRT treatments, slightly increases the risk of breast cancer when used for several years. Because it contains a progestogen, it protects the lining of the womb and reduces the risk of endometrial cancer compared to oestrogen-only therapy. Ovarian cancer risk may be slightly increased.
Femoston Conti may increase the risk of venous blood clots, particularly during the first year of use. Oral oestrogen has a higher impact on clotting factors than transdermal oestrogen, so individual risk factors such as obesity, smoking or clotting disorders should be carefully assessed.
Femoston Conti is taken orally and undergoes first-pass metabolism in the liver. Transdermal HRT patches may have a lower impact on clotting factors compared to oral therapy. The most suitable option depends on individual medical history and risk profile.
Femoston Conti may cause mild fluid retention in some women. Significant long-term weight gain is not consistently associated with combined HRT. Weight changes during menopause are influenced by hormonal shifts and lifestyle factors.
Usage & Administration
Femoston Conti is usually prescribed for women who are fully postmenopausal, meaning at least 12 months since their last natural period. Sequential HRT is generally preferred during perimenopause.
Femoston Conti should be used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary to control symptoms. Annual medical review is recommended to reassess the benefit–risk balance.
