Treatment Information

What is mental and emotional support?

Mental and emotional support is a form of supportive care focused on emotional well-being, self-understanding and coping during a gender-affirming journey. It offers a safe space to talk openly about thoughts, feelings and experiences related to gender identity, transition and everyday life.

This type of support is commonly used by transgender and non-binary individuals, as well as by people who are questioning their gender identity or adjusting to changes during or after hormone therapy.

Mental and emotional support works by:

  • offering a confidential space to talk without judgement,
  • helping you process emotions related to gender dysphoria, transition or social changes,
  • and supporting emotional resilience and self-confidence over time.

This support does not follow a fixed timeline. Some people benefit from a few sessions, while others choose ongoing conversations during different phases of their transition.

At Transtoyou, mental and emotional support is offered as an optional service and is not a requirement for medical treatment.

Who is mental and emotional support for?

Mental and emotional support may be helpful for:

  • transgender individuals at any stage of their transition,
  • non-binary or gender-questioning individuals seeking clarity or reassurance,
  • adults who want emotional support alongside hormone therapy or other gender-affirming care,
  • people dealing with stress, uncertainty or emotional challenges related to identity or social changes.

This service is available for adults aged 18 and over. Sessions are booked separately and are not linked to medical eligibility for hormone therapy or other treatments. Participation is always voluntary.

How mental and emotional support works

Mental and emotional support at Transtoyou is offered through one-on-one consultations with a trained support professional. These sessions focus on listening, reflection and emotional guidance, rather than diagnosis or mandatory therapy.

One-on-one support sessions
During a session, you can talk about whatever feels relevant to you. This may include gender identity, coming out, relationships, body changes, self-image, stress, anxiety or confidence. The conversation is guided by your needs and pace.

Flexible and personalised
There is no fixed program or obligation to continue. Some people book a single session for clarity or reassurance, while others choose regular check-ins during their transition or at moments of change.

What to expect from mental and emotional support

Mental and emotional support does not aim to change who you are or tell you what decisions to make. Instead, it helps you explore your own feelings and experiences in a supportive environment. Possible outcomes include improved emotional balance, greater self-understanding, better coping strategies and a sense of being heard and supported. The experience is different for everyone and evolves over time.

Mental and emotional support at Transtoyou

At Transtoyou, mental and emotional support is offered as a separate, optional service. It is never required to start or continue medical treatment. Sessions are confidential, respectful and focused on your personal experience. You remain in control of how often you book sessions and what topics you wish to discuss.
