Treatment Information

What is transgender care?

Transgender care focuses on supporting people whose gender identity does not fully align with the sex assigned at birth. This care can include medical guidance, hormone therapy and additional supportive services. For many people, hormone therapy plays an important role in reducing gender dysphoria and improving quality of life.

Here, we focus on gender-affirming hormone therapy (HRT). This means that an experienced doctor works with you to determine which treatment fits your body, health and personal situation. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Your treatment plan is always individual and based on medical assessment, your goals and your overall wellbeing.

At Transtoyou, we offer transgender care for adults experiencing gender incongruence who are considering hormone therapy. Our care is personal, transparent and fully aligned with the latest international medical guidelines, including the WPATH Standards of Care (SOC8).

Hormone therapy can be an important step in aligning your body with who you are. Because of its impact on your health, we believe this care should always be provided with proper medical guidance, clear information and regular follow-up. At Transtoyou, transgender care is never rushed or automated. Every step is designed to ensure safety, understanding and informed decision-making.

Hormone therapy at Transtoyou (MTF & FTM)

Transtoyou provides hormone therapy for both transfeminine and transmasculine people:

Male-to-Female (MTF) hormone therapy is aimed at feminisation and usually involves estrogen and, if needed, medication to reduce the effects of testosterone.

Female-to-Male (FTM) hormone therapy is aimed at masculinisation and usually involves testosterone.

Every body responds differently to hormones. During your video consultation, the doctor will discuss with you what physical changes you may expect, which treatment options are available, what the possible risks and side effects are, and what is medically safe and appropriate in your situation.

Hormone therapy leads to gradual changes over time. Some changes may be partially reversible if treatment is stopped, while others can be permanent. This is why clear information and realistic expectations are an essential part of transgender care at Transtoyou.

Why transgender care at Transtoyou always involves a video consultation

Transgender care is personalised medical care. For that reason, hormone therapy at Transtoyou is always provided through a video consultation with a doctor. It is not possible to start or continue hormone therapy through a questionnaire alone.

During the video consultation, your medical history and current health are carefully reviewed. The doctor assesses potential risks, explains treatment options and answers your questions. This personal contact ensures that hormone therapy is prescribed responsibly and that you fully understand the benefits, risks and long-term implications of treatment.

How transgender care works at Transtoyou

The treatment process at Transtoyou follows a clear and structured pathway:

  1. Register with Transtoyou: Create an account and request transgender care through the platform.
  2. Identity verification: Your identity is verified before the consultation, so the doctor knows they are speaking with the correct person.
  3. Medical questionnaires: You complete a general medical questionnaire, hormone-specific questions and a mental health screening.
  4. Upload blood test results: Recent blood tests (no older than 3 months) are required.
If you would like to have your video consultation but do not yet have your blood test results, you can still proceed with the consultation. The doctor can discuss your situation, explain the treatment options and advise you on which tests are required. Please note that no prescription can be issued without recent blood test results. Once your results are available, a follow-up video consultation is required before treatment can be started or continued.
  5. Video consultation with a doctor: Together, you discuss your situation, expectations and possible treatment options.
  6. Informed consent: You receive clear information about expected effects, possible risks and irreversible changes. You decide whether to proceed.
  7. Start of treatment: If hormone therapy is medically appropriate, a prescription is issued for a maximum of 3 months.
  8. Regular follow-up: After 3 months, a new video consultation and medical review are required before continuing treatment.

Additional treatment information

What is transgender care at Transtoyou? Transgender care at Transtoyou focuses on medically supervised, gender-affirming hormone therapy (HRT) for adults experiencing gender incongruence. Care is provided through video consultations with licensed doctors and follows international medical guidelines such as the WPATH Standards of Care (SOC8).
The average monthly cost of transgender hormone therapy at Transtoyou depends on whether you receive MTF (Male-to-Female) or FTM (Female-to-Male) treatment, the type of medication used and your individual dosage. Medication costs
  • MTF hormone therapy: Most patients spend approximately €120–€190 per month on medication. In some cases, costs may be lower (estrogen only) or slightly higher, depending on the treatment plan.
  • FTM hormone therapy: Most patients spend approximately €140–€160 per month when using testosterone gel. Injectable testosterone may be lower or higher, typically ranging from €80–€160 per month, depending on dosing frequency.
These estimates reflect medication costs only. Consultation costs A video consultation costs approximately €50 and is required once every three months. This equals an average of about €17 per month. Blood test costs Blood tests are required before starting treatment and during follow-up. These can be done using home blood test kits or at a laboratory near you. When using home blood test kits, the costs are approximately €200 every three months, which equals an average of about €67 per month. Average total monthly cost (indicative) Putting everything together, the average total monthly cost is approximately:
  • MTF care: €204–€274 per month (medication €120–€190 + consultations €17 + blood tests €67)
  • FTM care: €224–€244 per month when using gel €164–€244 per month when using injectable testosterone (medication €80–€160 + consultations €17 + blood tests €67)
Prescriptions are issued for a period of three months so you have to pay for three months in one. For legal and regulatory reasons, medication is usually dispensed monthly, even though the prescription covers three months of treatment. This approach ensures compliance with applicable legislation and customs requirements. Your doctor will always discuss treatment options and expected costs with you during the video consultation, so you can make an informed decision before starting therapy.
Coverage depends on your country, insurer and personal insurance policy. In many cases, transgender hormone therapy is not reimbursed. We recommend checking directly with your insurance provider.
Transgender care at Transtoyou is only available for adults aged 18 and over. We do not provide hormone therapy for minors. This ensures that patients are legally able to give informed consent and that care remains medically and legally responsible.
  • MTF (Male-to-Female) hormone therapy usually involves estrogen and sometimes testosterone blockers to promote feminising changes.
  • FTM (Female-to-Male) hormone therapy usually involves testosterone to promote masculinising changes.
The exact treatment depends on your body, health and medical history.
Hormone therapy can lead to gradual physical changes such as fat redistribution, skin changes, voice changes (FTM), breast development (MTF), hair growth or reduction, and changes in muscle mass. Some effects are partially reversible, while others can be permanent. The doctor will explain this clearly during your consultation.
Yes. Hormone therapy can have side effects and health risks, including changes in blood pressure, cholesterol, liver function, blood clot risk (especially with estrogen), or increased red blood cell levels (with testosterone). Hormone therapy can also affect fertility. In some cases, fertility may decrease significantly or become permanently impaired, especially with long-term use. While fertility may partially recover after stopping treatment, this cannot be guaranteed. That is why regular medical monitoring, clear counseling and follow-up are essential, and why fertility preservation options should be considered before starting hormone therapy.
Before starting transgender hormone therapy at Transtoyou, recent blood tests are required. These tests help the doctor assess your general health and determine whether treatment is safe. For all patients (MTF and FTM):
  • Complete blood count (CBC)
  • Liver function: ALT and AST
  • Kidney function: creatinine and eGFR
  • Cholesterol (lipid profile)
  • Glucose or HbA1c
  • Baseline hormone levels: testosterone and estradiol
Additional tests for MTF (Male-to-Female) care:
  • Prolactin
Additional tests for FTM (Female-to-Male) care:
  • Pregnancy test (β-hCG) if pregnancy is possible
Blood test results must be no older than 3 months.
Your blood test results must be no older than 3 months at the time of your video consultation. Older results cannot be used, as decisions about hormone therapy must be based on up-to-date medical information.
Yes. Blood tests are repeated regularly:
  • Every 3 months during the first year of hormone therapy,
  • Usually every 6 months after that, depending on your situation.
Regular testing helps keep treatment safe and effective.
After starting hormone therapy, follow-up is required every 3 months during the first year. After that, follow-ups usually take place every 6 months, depending on your situation. Follow-up is always required before a new prescription is issued.
Yes, switching is possible. However, the doctor will review your current treatment, recent blood tests and medical history to ensure continuation is safe. In some cases, a video consultation is mandatory before continuing treatment.
Yes. You can stop hormone therapy at any time. Some physical changes may partially reverse, while others may not. The doctor will discuss this with you before you start treatment.
Yes. While psychological support is not mandatory, it is available and recommended for many people. Gender transition can be emotionally complex, and support can be helpful alongside medical care.
