What is Estramon Comp?
Estramon Comp is a continuous combined hormone replacement therapy (HRT) tablet used in women after menopause.
Each film-coated tablet contains:
- Estradiol, a form of estrogen identical to the hormone your ovaries produced before menopause
- Norethisterone acetate, a progestogen that protects the lining of your womb
Estramon Comp is taken every day without interruption. Because it is a continuous combined HRT, both hormones are taken daily. This means regular monthly withdrawal bleeding is usually not expected.
Estramon Comp is prescribed if:
- Your last natural period was at least 12 months ago
- You still have your uterus
- Your menopause symptoms significantly affect your daily life
It is not intended for women in perimenopause or those who still have natural cycles.
What is it used for?
Estramon Comp is used for two main purposes:
1. Relief of menopause symptoms
After menopause, estrogen levels fall. This can lead to symptoms such as:
- Hot flushes
- Night sweats
- Sleep disturbance
- Mood changes
- Vaginal dryness
- Reduced overall wellbeing
Estramon Comp replaces declining estrogen levels and helps reduce these symptoms when they interfere with your quality of life.
2. Prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis
After menopause, lower estrogen levels can cause bones to become thinner and more fragile. This condition is called osteoporosis.
Estramon Comp may be prescribed to help prevent bone loss if:
- You are at increased risk of fractures
- Other osteoporosis treatments are not suitable for you
How does the product work?
Estramon Comp combines two hormones in one daily tablet to provide balanced hormone replacement therapy.
Estradiol
Estradiol replaces the estrogen your body no longer produces after menopause. It helps:
- Stabilise body temperature regulation
- Reduce hot flushes and night sweats
- Improve vaginal tissue health
- Support sleep and mood
- Maintain bone density
Norethisterone acetate
If you still have your womb, taking estrogen alone increases the risk of thickening of the womb lining (endometrial hyperplasia). Over time, this can increase the risk of endometrial cancer.
Norethisterone acetate protects the lining of your womb by preventing excessive thickening.
Because Estramon Comp is taken continuously, the womb lining remains stable, and regular bleeding is generally avoided.
Who should not use the product?
Do not take Estramon Comp if:
- You have or have had breast cancer
- You have estrogen-dependent cancer (such as endometrial cancer)
- You have unexplained vaginal bleeding
- You have untreated endometrial hyperplasia
- You have or have had blood clots in your legs or lungs
- You have a known clotting disorder
- You have had a heart attack, stroke or angina
- You have liver disease with abnormal liver function
- You have porphyria
- You are pregnant or think you may be pregnant
Stop treatment immediately and seek medical advice if any of these conditions occur during use.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Estramon Comp is only intended for postmenopausal women.
Do not take this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you become pregnant while taking Estramon Comp, stop treatment immediately and contact your doctor.
Estramon Comp is not a contraceptive. If it has been less than 12 months since your last period and you are under 50 years old, additional contraception may still be required.
How to use and dosage
The usual dose is:
- One tablet daily
- Taken at approximately the same time each day
- Without interruption between packs
Swallow the tablet with water. It can be taken with or without food.
Your doctor will aim to prescribe the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary to control your symptoms. Your treatment should be reviewed at least once a year.
If you forget a tablet:
- If less than 12 hours late, take it as soon as you remember
- If more than 12 hours late, skip the missed tablet and continue as normal
- Do not take a double dose
Missing tablets may increase the likelihood of breakthrough bleeding.
Possible side effects
Like all hormone replacement therapies, Estramon Comp may cause side effects.
Very common side effects include:
- Headache
- Breast tenderness
- Irregular bleeding, especially during the first months of treatment
Common side effects may include:
- Mood changes or depression
- Nausea
- Abdominal discomfort
- Weight gain
- Fluid retention
- Vaginal discharge
- Migraine or worsening migraine
More serious but less common risks associated with HRT include:
- Breast cancer
- Ovarian cancer
- Endometrial cancer
- Blood clots
- Stroke
- Heart disease
Your individual risk depends on your age, health status, family history and how long you use hormone therapy.
Important safety information
Before starting Estramon Comp, you should have a full medical consultation.
Tell your doctor if you have:
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Migraine
- Liver disease
- Gallstones
- Endometriosis
- Thyroid disorders
- A history of blood clots
Hormone replacement therapy is associated with a small increased risk of venous thromboembolism, especially during the first year of treatment.
You should attend regular check-ups, including breast screening as recommended.
When to seek medical help
Stop taking Estramon Comp and seek urgent medical attention if you experience:
- Painful swelling or redness in one leg
- Sudden chest pain

- Severe sudden headache
- Vision or speech disturbances

General Information
Estramon Comp is a continuous combined hormone replacement therapy (HRT) tablet. It contains estradiol and norethisterone acetate in every daily tablet and is taken without breaks. Because both hormones are taken continuously, regular monthly withdrawal bleeding is usually not expected
Estramon Comp provides continuous exposure to both estrogen and progestogen. The progestogen (norethisterone acetate) stabilises the lining of the womb, preventing the cyclical shedding that occurs with sequential HRT. Some irregular spotting may occur during the first months of treatment, but scheduled monthly bleeding is generally avoided.
Estramon Comp and Estramon Conti are both continuous combined HRT treatments intended for postmenopausal women. They contain estrogen and a progestogen taken daily without interruption. While the treatment principle is the same, they may differ in formulation (for example tablet or patch), manufacturer, or specific dosing characteristics. Both are designed to avoid regular monthly bleeding.
Estramon products differ in whether they contain estrogen alone or a combination of estrogen and progestogen, and in how the hormones are delivered (tablet or patch).
- Estramon – Estrogen-only patch. Usually prescribed for women who have had a hysterectomy.
- Estramon Uno - contains estradiol only and is usually prescribed for women who have had a hysterectomy.
- Estramon Comp – is a continuous combined HRT tablet containing estradiol and norethisterone acetate for women who still have a uterus.
- Estramon Conti – Continuous combined HRT patch. Both hormones are delivered continuously and regular bleeding is not expected.
The choice depends on whether you still have a uterus and how long it has been since your last period.
Safety & Side Effects
Estramon Comp, like other combined HRT treatments, slightly increases the risk of breast cancer when used for several years. The risk increases with duration of use and decreases after stopping treatment. Regular breast screening and annual medical review are recommended.
Estramon Comp may increase the risk of venous blood clots (deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism), particularly during the first year of use. Risk is higher in women who smoke, are overweight, have clotting disorders, or have a personal or family history of thrombosis
Estramon Comp may cause mild fluid retention in some women. Significant long-term weight gain is not consistently associated with continuous combined HRT. Weight changes during menopause are influenced by hormonal shifts and lifestyle factors.
Estramon Comp is an oral HRT tablet. Transdermal HRT patches deliver estrogen through the skin and may have a lower effect on certain clotting factors. The most appropriate option depends on individual medical history and cardiovascular risk profile.
Usage & Administration
Estramon Comp is intended for postmenopausal women whose last natural period was at least 12 months ago. It is generally not suitable for perimenopause, when natural cycles are still occurring.
Estramon Comp is not a contraceptive. Pregnancy is unlikely if you are fully postmenopausal, but if it has been less than 12 months since your last period and you are under 50 years old, additional contraception may still be required.
Estramon Comp may be used long term if the benefits outweigh the risks. Treatment should be reviewed at least annually. The lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary is recommended.
If a dose of Estramon Comp is less than 12 hours late, take it as soon as you remember. If more than 12 hours have passed, skip the missed tablet and continue as normal. Do not take a double dose. Missing doses may increase the likelihood of breakthrough bleeding.
